Love Notes

My little guy had his regular doctor's checkup today and it was interesting. He's healthy and well let's just say he is really growing! But he was not happy about being at the doctor, and he didn't make much of a secret of that. He gave very short answers to the doctor's questions and was just generally "blah"...he I think was under the impression he was going to be getting shots and it totally soured his mood. When the appt. was over {no shots!}, I told him I was not happy with his attitude and it made me feel bad that he was in such a mood and he needed to snap out of it unless he wanted to go to bed early. Could it be that he's starting to go through one of those awful pre-teen phases???? UGH, a little early but it's possible I guess! Anyway, when we got home, he made me these...
No matter what, he always remains my sweet boy.

My Monday

My son and his self-portrait at the school Art Show...
As soon as I saw it, I knew it was him
He was a good sport and stood still for pictures by Daddy, me and Grandma - even though his friends were walking by and it might have looked a little un-cool. I love my sweet boy.

On a completely separate note...
I am excited about this new Bates Motel is pretty amazing.
Anyone else out there watching it?
It could be my new Sopranos-ish obsession :)
Yes I still miss that show...

Super Lazy Weekend

I love lazy weekends...
They allow time for great things to happen - like this sketch by my daughter...
{While looking at a photo, she drew the exact replica} She is amazing. My husband tweeted a pic of it to the Buffalo Sabres and some of the local media. She felt so proud when one of the Sabres announcers commented on it and said it was awesome :)

Also happening this parents went out and got a kitten. I knew they would. They really wanted to get one before Daisy died, and now that their one remaining kitty was alone, I knew it would happen pretty quickly...isn't he adorable?????
3/23/13Day 82/365Meet my Mom & Dad's new kitten...Tommy ♥
His name is Tommy, named after my Uncle, who also had blue eyes.
(also, my Mom said she always hoped my sister or I would name one of our sons Tommy...but she has now given up on that idea and so she chose it for her new kitten. Makes sense to me :)

Besides all that, the Sabres played and WON (3 games in a row is a big deal for us right now!) and we relaxed, my son made some googley-eye friends, we played some Hungry Hungry Hippos, and just enjoyed not having anything we HAD to do. Oh, and I did some re-designing of my blog as you might notice. I heart iScrapbook. Hope you had a nice weekend too!

Sweet Dreams, Daisy

Daisy passed away in my mother's arms this morning. It was very hard. She let go while we were still home with her, and although her heart was still beating when we got her to the vet, within minutes she was gone. The vet didn't have to do anything. They were wonderful and caring and they just let us have our time with her in the room until we were ready to leave her. We hated leaving her. I will miss her and those teeny tiny little paws of hers, which never seemed to grow with the rest of her body...she was my little buddy.

My Daisy

Tomorrow we are taking my sweet little Daisy to be put to sleep. My heart is broken. I say "my" Daisy because I chose her...way back in 1999 when my sister and I went to look at a brand new litter of kittens, she picked one and I picked one. In an instant I fell in love with the most beautiful little kitten I'd ever seen. She had the softest gray fur, big green eyes...a little pink mouth. She was perfect. I named her after my favorite flower. I love that cat so much. And she loves me. She has lived in my mother's apartment for years now because of my son's {and husband's and daughter's} allergies. But she has always been my little buddy... everyone has always marveled at how she would light up like a firefly as soon as she saw me. About a week ago she started acting funny. She didn't want any food, she wasn't friendly anymore...she wasn't really interested in anything other than water. Now she doesn't even want that. The vet says her kidneys are failing. Since Monday she has gone downhill fast. She barely even looks up anymore. Tonight as I was talking to her I started to cry and she raised her head slightly, trying to look in my direction. I want so badly for her to go peacefully in her sleep tonight. I don't want to take her to that place tomorrow. I know it's the humane thing to do, and I've done it before for other cats. But it's just so hard to hand them I said, I know it's the humane thing to do but at the same time it feels so barbaric. My mother is snuggling her to sleep tonight and that brings me some comfort...but I'm not sure I'll sleep tonight.

This is a video I took of her on February 19th...just one month ago. I never imagined she would be leaving me so soon :*(

Dear Mom on the iPhone

A friend posted this on Facebook today and it really hit home... I know I'm guilty, who isn't?.... I don't know where it's originally from, I don't claim credit for writing it - I just wanted to share because it really is an eye opener.

Dear Mom On the iPhone,

I see you over there on the bench, messing on your iPhone. It feels good to relax a little while your kids have fun in the sunshine, doesn’t it? You are doing a great job with your kids, you work hard, you teach them manners, have them do their chores.

But Momma, let me tell you what you don’t see right now…..

Your little girl is spinning round and round, making her dress twirl. She is such a little beauty queen already, the sun shining behind her long hair. She keeps glancing your way to see if you are watching her.

You aren’t.

Your little boy keeps shouting, “Mom, MOM watch this!” I see you acknowledge him, barely glancing his way.

He sees that too. His shoulders slump, but only for a moment, as he finds the next cool thing to do.

Now you are pushing your baby in the swing. She loves it! Cooing and smiling with every push. You don’t see her though, do you? Your head is bent, your eyes on your phone as you absently push her swing.

Talk to her. Tell her about the clouds, Mommy. The Creator who made them. Tickle her tummy when she comes near you and enjoy that baby belly laugh that leaves far too quickly.

Put your eyes back on your prize…Your kids.

Show them that they are the priority. Wherever you are, be ALL there. I am not saying it’s not ok to check in on your phone, but it’s a time-sucker: User Beware!

Play time at the park will be over before you know it.

The childhood of your children will be gone before you know it.

They won’t always want to come to the park with you, Mommy. They won’t always spin and twirl to make their new dress swish, they won’t always call out, “WATCH ME!”

There will come a point when they stop trying, stop calling your name, stop bothering to interrupt your phone time.

Because they know…

You’ve shown them, all these moments, that the phone is more important than they are. They see you looking at it at while waiting to pick up brother from school, during playtime, at the dinner table, at bedtime…..

I know that’s not true, Mommy.

I know your heart says differently.

But your kids can’t hear your words, Mommy. Your actions are screaming way too loudly.

May our eyes rest upon those we love, first and foremost, and may everything else fall away in the wonderful, noisy, sticky-fingered glory of it all. ♥

Lucky Charms Cupcakes

We always celebrate St. Patty's Day with my in-laws, as they are proud of their Irish heritage, and this year I wanted to make sure I brought something festive to add to the dessert menu {and so I'd know for sure there was something safe for my son to enjoy}. So of course I looked around on Pinterest and I was so excited to find something cute, quick, and most importantly for me - hard to mess up! Lucky Charms Cupcakes!! Here is my result:

I'm happy to say it doesn't look much different that the original post, which you can find here

Night Owl

courtesy of weheartit

I hate mornings. And they definitely hate me. It's so hard to drag myself out of bed - which is a result of me not getting enough sleep....which is a result of me not going to bed until after midnight {to put it mildly}. So it's my own fault and I know that. But being a full-time working Mom, evenings are my only free time Monday through Friday, so... there's no other option. I am away from home from 8 am to 6 pm and yeah I'm exhausted by the time dinner is over. But I just can't bring myself to crawl into bed at 9 or 10 like I "should" because then I sleep and suddenly I'm getting up and going out to do it alllll over again. I feel like Squidward in that Spongebob episode where he goes nuts because he feels like his daily life is on a never ending loop and pretty soon he's running around town maniacally sucking people up with a leaf blower. I will go crazy without my free time. But right now I'm going crazy because I'm not getting enough sleep.... so something's gotta give. One thing I am incredibly thankful for is that my husband takes care of everything around the house - including dinner - so I don't have to worry about any of that. One reason I love him. I would have been leaf-blowering Squidward style long ago if it weren't for him. And I know I'm bitching about something millions of other people deal with too... So I'm done whining. For now ;-)

Monday Again?

Really, I can't take it. How does the weekend always go by so freakin fast?? I am officially crabby. So for those of you who, like me, are wishing for a smile this gloomy Monday morning (well, it's gloomy here in Buffalo...maybe not where you are), hopefully this kitty helps :-)

Happy Monday.

I'm a grown up, I swear.

So this Wednesday I have a little confession — I am obsessed with the Wreck It Ralph soundtrack. Not all the songs, but a few….they are just so fun!!! The kids and I have been singing them so relentlessly my hubby sent me the soundtrack on iTunes, lol! It’s hard not to sing along to them as I listen to them on the bus to work ;) haha I would be so embarrassed if people could only hear what’s coming through my headphones on the bus to work. Anyway - Happy Wednesday everyone. At least the week is half over…
