12 Years of Mommyhood

My sweet baby girl, Samantha Nicole, is 12 years old today.
I am such a proud mama.
I'm a little emotional over this birthday...not sure why.
Maybe because it's the last one before the teen years...?
I feel like this little baby bundle grew up in the blink of an eye.....

Early to Bed or Early to Rise?

That is the question...
I don't like making my kids go to bed on time during summer vacation. I like them to be able to stay up and have fun, late summer nights. (Not TOO late. Well not every day at least :-)...) My hubby, however, likes them to get to bed as close to on-time as possible (meaning school night bedtimes) so that they can get up early the next morning and have a long summer day. I get that, and I do really like that idea. But I also feel so cruel waking my kids up at 7am during summer vacation... this issue has been a bone of contention between him and I for a few summers now and it's been a bit of a struggle every year.
So I'm just wondering, what do all of you other mommies and daddies do?

Celebrating Samantha

My baby girl is going to be 12 this week. I don't understand how this happened. She's still my baby...isn't she? I can't believe it. She is becoming such a wonderful young lady, and she has so many beautiful qualities that are just her own...I am so proud of her. Here are some photos from her two birthday parties we had this weekend...

First she celebrated with some of her BFFs at Lasertron and then we celebrated with family at home.

She was a little embarrassed by the singing, I think.
Is she too old for that now that she's 12?

Beautiful Cousins :)

She's a big Yoshi fan. And apparently my son is a big fan of gift bags...

My sister brought her new pit bull puppy over to share in the festivities.
He's too cute.

In one year this beautiful creature of mine will be a teenager...
I need to find some time-freezing potion...or even better, a time machine so I can go back and hold her in my arms and snuggle her to sleep again like I always used to. Ahh, those were the days...people say it all the time, but trust me Mommies -- it goes by SO FAST. Treasure every day when they are little.

Happy Birthday, my sweet Sammi.

I don't get it.

I don't get why people are so worked up about the donations Karen Huff Klein (the bullied bus aide) has been receiving. I've seen and heard quite a bit of complaining in the past couple hours and it's really starting to irk me. First of all, SHE didn't ASK for ANYTHING. Also, the money has built up as high as it has because of lots of people (over 26,000 last I checked!) donating small amounts of money to show a little caring and compassion for her. It's not like one person just walked up and gave her all this money. It started with one person, as a showing of caring & support, and it snowballed. I think that reflects positively on humanity and proves that there are decent people out there who genuinely care. Yes there are MANY other causes & problems out there in this world that need attention. I still don't see how that makes what people have done for her wrong in any way. It's thousands of regular, decent people showing a little love for a hardworking, little old lady who was treated terribly by the school children she chooses to help protect each day. I swear, sometimes it seems like people have to make a point to find something negative in everything.

What is happening??

I know there are probably a million and one posts across the blogosphere about the incredibly sad story of the bullied bus aide in Rochester. Let me just say... THIS is a perfect example of why I dreaded sending my daughter to Middle School. What little monsters! This is one of the sickest and saddest things I have ever, EVER seen. Actually I couldn't even get through the whole video. My heart aches for this poor woman... when my daughter saw the small blurb about it on the news (no, I did not let her see the video), she was sad and upset that children her age are responsible. 11, 12 and 13 year old kids. HOW does this happen? It is SO scary that children can be this cruel to someone in the first place...But when they ENJOY it - that takes it to a whole other level. With things like this going on, it's hard not to fear for the future of this world. If those children can treat an elderly lady like this - God only knows what they would do to people their own age... and if they are this cruel as children, what are they going to be like as adults? And what horrific things are being said to them or at least in front of them by the adult role models in their lives?? I don't even know what else to say....

God bless you, Karen Huff Klein. You know in your heart that it doesn't matter what those kids said... you are a beautiful person and the world stands beside you. I wish I could give you a great big hug.

Well hello, Summer!

Today was my son's last day of 2nd grade. My daughter's last exam is tomorrow. I can't believe yet another school year has come and gone. I was so very terrified of my little girl going to Middle School, and so far -- SO FAR -- it hasn't been that bad. She has definitely grown up a lot this year, but she is still absolutely wonderful. Thank God! After tomorrow, she will have reached the milestone of surviving 6th grade. In fact, one of her bffs is throwing an "I survived 6th grade" party next weekend! I thought that was such a cool idea. My son is super happy to be on vacation, but all he talked about tonight was how much he was going to miss his teacher. He is such a sweet boy. So this summer will be full of day trips with Daddy (while I'm at work :-( ), amusement parks, playing in the sprinkler (and the pool IF we get another one to replace the two I popped last year!)...just relaxing, relaxing, relaxing...... OH and then there's my trip to D.C. next month with my daughter and her Girl Scout troop!!!!!! Holy crap we are all so excited for this trip! If all goes as planned, we will be having tea with the First Lady. Yeah. How amazing is that?! My camera is going to get quite the workout!

So....once again, happy summer vacation to all!!
Enjoy it while it lasts, because we all know it goes by WAY too fast!
