My Girl

Today was the Girl Scout Mother/Daughter Brunch It was so sweet. It was kind of like our own little Mommy Date…
The food was amazing ~ and I’m not even a big fan of breakfast food.
We ate…a lot…… listened to a guest speaker, and listened to the Brownie troops sing some sweet songs.

She and Kristen were amused by my psychotic picture taking.
Yes those are cupcakes in that picture in the corner, but in my defense, I am not the one who put them in the shape of a smiley face :)

At the end of the brunch, each girl presented a flower to their wonderful Mom.

Ain’t that the truth?!

Celebrating Easter

For the first time ever, my kids colored the eggs all by themselves this year!
They’re getting so old, I’m just glad they wanted to color eggs at all…
Decorating the driveway for the Easter Bunny

This Easter morning, the baskets weren’t very hard to find.
David picked out his own clothes to wear to Grandma’s for dinner…
He wanted to look handsome.
Turtleneck, polo shirt, clip on tie.

I had to get a pic of him before I made him change into his Sabres jersey.
Yeah that’s right, we all wore our Sabres jerseys to Easter dinner because we’re diehard fans and this was the day of Game Six of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.

If the Sabres would have won that game, we would have moved on to Round 2.
Naturally, it didn’t happen :(
Of course.
And so, this was the first time ever that I did not make my kids dress up for Easter. It’s just not worth it – the dressy clothes never get worn more than once and they hate wearing them anyway. Especially my daughter. I can make her wear a dress – and I have – many times, but I cannot get her to like it no matter how hard I try.

Since David has allergies and can’t eat most chocolate, my parents gave him a Vanek t-shirt for Easter, which is almost better than chocolate anyway.

Our happy eggs all ready for eating
SmileMy kids always pick one certain egg that is theirs to eat on Easter.
David now wears the “Ralphie” glasses every time we celebrate anything at Grandma’s.

It was baby Connor’s first Easter and he looked cute as a button in his little chick sleeper.
He even helped out with the egg hunt!

This year they got marshmallow shooters in their gift bags from Grandma & Grandpa
What sticky, gross fun that has been!!

Trying to Stay Positive

I am always so mentally exhausted at night once my kids are in bed, I can’t bring myself to sit down and blog most nights. I really want to, it just doesn’t happen. The other night I did write a whole big entry and was ready to publish…but then I proceeded to fall asleep on my laptop and accidentally deleted everything I wrote…ugh.

This week has been rough. We found out a couple of weeks ago that for the first time ever, our employer is being forced by the state to permanently lay off hundreds of people. We had a staff meeting Wednesday and were told the process would be complete sometime in May. Then on Thursday, the first three people in our building were given their notice. So the reality is hitting. Even if I do keep my job, I am bound to lose some of my friends – people like me who also have families and children to take care of – and that just sucks no matter how you look at it. So that’s been a serious downer this week and the tension and morale at work is at its worst right now. It’s difficult to work hard at a job that you’re not sure you’re going to have in a month…but considering how important and essential our work is to the public - who will unfortunately see and have to deal with the mess once we’re shorthanded – we manage to do it anyway. We’re all kind of hoping the process will be completed much sooner than “sometime in May” so that people can get on with their lives and figure out what to do next. All I can really do is hope for the best and remember that no matter what happens things will be alright. No matter how bad things have gotten in my life, I always end up being able to see very clearly once the dust settles that everything really did happen for a reason and that it put me right where I was meant to be…I usually have a nervous breakdown in the meantime – but things work out.

Anyway – on the bright side – THE SABRES ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS! And they won Game One on Thursday night! Not only did they win –but my Millsy got a SHUT OUT! What could possibly cheer me up more than that?! It was a great, nail-biting game and tonight’s game promises to be just as exciting. And if we win, we come home for Games 3 & 4 up 2 nothing in the Series. That would be amazing. Plus, one of my best friends in the world is coming over to watch it with us tonight. I haven’t seen her since the summertime and she’s one of those people who no matter how long it’s been, you can pick up right where you left off like nothing ever happened :) Thank God for friends like that!

Catching Up

Well here I am again, it’s been a few weeks again since my last post. Again. I suck at this blogging thing. Anyway, since then David went to his first Sabres game (we won 2 to 0!) and he got lots of great souvenirs from one of the NHL Officials at the game who seemed to just love him (who wouldn’t?).
The guy even gave him a puck from the game!
How awesome is that?!

Here are a few more pictures from the game…

Sabretooth!!Me and Andrej…
So besides the game (and the fact that the Sabres have made the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!) we’ve spent our time helping David get over another illness – this time a 103* fever and headache that lasted about a day and a half, and then two days after that he ended up with a really painful ear infection :( The sickie fairy has been bringing him all sorts of goodies this year. Oh and he lost another tooth in the middle of all that. He looks so adorable with his toothless grin! Like he said – he looks like a hockey player now. Samantha has been doing good…I won’t jinx it by saying much more than that but she’s just been keeping a safe distance from all the germs. She’s gearing up for the final few months of elementary school. I can’t believe how time is flying by this school year. She participated in another fundraiser this past weekend at Applebee’s…
Here she is with my mother-in-law and aunt-in-law :) My camera really sucks without the flash.

Then yesterday we celebrated my mother-in-law’s birthday at her house with pizza and cake (I didn’t get a picture of the cake! That never happens! It must be because I was so tired after work)

…and then my brother-in-law and his wife brought over the new baby in a surprise visit and my husband, the kids and I finally got to meet him! He’s so perfect and sweet and tiny…

I was so happy I got to hold him.

Ok…so now I’m pretty much caught up, lol :)
I feel better now…
